Hey there! I'm Mrs. Bushhouse, literacy coach and intervention teacher at Fuquay-Varina Elementary School. I am a Campbell University graduate, and I majored in Elementary Education. I have taught fourth and fifth grade, most of those years at FVES with the Rockets!
I am from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, but I have since moved to Fuquay Varina, North Carolina. I was married in May of 2014 to another educator. Mr. Bushhouse and I met at Campbell through our general education classes and the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. He will continue teaching Social Studies at Fuquay-Varina High School this year. As far as hobbies go, I enjoy reading, baking, and listening to music. I also love going to the beach! In October 2018, we welcomed our daughter Harper, and she and our dog Dexter complete our little family.
I believe that every student has the ability to learn. Cooperative learning and collaboration are consistently present in my classroom. I try to integrate technology when possible, making sure that it is used as a tool for learning. In my classroom, reading is strongly encouraged. While reading introduces new vocabulary and concepts, it also allows students to travel to new places and meet various characters (some that are similar to the reader and others that are completely different). I think that students should be challenged in the classroom. By creating opportunities for students to strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, I can help prepare them for situations they may face out in the world.
